History of Coriolis

Coriolis was founded in 1983 by its principals Jay Wollenberg and Sandi Munro. For over 30 years, Coriolis has been providing consulting services in: real estate analysis; urban planning and development policy; development approvals and processes; strategic advice; RFP design and implementation; and other specialized services such as financial modeling, expert testimony, public and farmers’ markets, and meeting and workshop facilitation.

Jay Wollenberg holds Master and Bachelor of Science Degrees in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has been honoured by the Canadian Institute of Planners by being elected as a member of the Institute’s College of Fellows. Jay has been a planning and development consultant in BC for over 35 years. He is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and  has been President of the Planning Institute of BC and the Canadian Institute of Planners. He is an Adjunct Professor in the University of British Columbia School of Community and Regional Planning where he teaches a graduate course in market and financial analysis for development projects.

Sandi Munro graduated with honours from the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business with a Bachelor of Commerce in Urban Land Economics and Marketing. She has over 30 years of experience in providing market and financial analysis, computer modeling, preparing and evaluating RFPs, and in developing planning strategies and policies. Sandi is a Professional member of the Real Estate Institute of BC, a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with membership in the Planning Institute of BC and Canadian Institute of Planners, and a member of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver Quarter Century Club.

Our Vice President Blair Erb, joined Coriolis in 1990. He has provided a wide range of real estate consulting services to public and private sector clients, including: market and financial analysis for development projects and community plans; conceptual development planning; planning policy analysis; impact assessments; economic development; development approvals; and real estate portfolio management. He graduated with honours from the UBC Sauder School of Business with a concentration in Urban Land Economics and Finance. He is a Professional member of the Real Estate Institute of BC and a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with membership in the Planning Institute of BC and Canadian Institute of Planners.

Senior Consultant Nicole Olenick joined Coriolis in 1997 following her graduation with honours from UBC’s Sauder School of Business with a Bachelor of Commerce in Urban Land Economics. She has over a decade of experience in market and financial analysis, managing RFPs, and in development approvals. Nicole is a Professional member of the Real Estate Institute of BC and a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with membership in the Planning Institute of BC and Canadian Institute of Planners.

To celebrate our 25 year milestone in 2008, Coriolis offered student prizes to stimulate and reward innovative thinking about cities. In 2013 we celebrated 30 years of providing consulting services.

Who Uses Our Services

We have worked with all levels of government and with a wide range of private sector clients including developers, landowners, retailers, financial institutions, and pension plans.

From our base in Vancouver Canada, we have worked extensively throughout British Columbia and Western Canada (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba). We have also worked in Ontario, Yukon, North West Territories, Washington, California, and Asia.

Every client and project situation is unique. We start each project with a custom proposal for services. Our proposals articulate clear objectives, outline a detailed work program, define specific deliverables (e.g. reports, presentations), and suggest a schedule and budget.
